I had always been a huge fan of face masks. I always try to include at least one face mask session a week in my skincare regime.
In the recent 2-3 years, peel off masks has gained quite fame in the cosmetic industry. Undoubtedly, these masks have the ability to make a dull facial session fun instantly.
Quick-drying peel-off masks are quite a game-changer. Originally, these masks were introduced as masks that can pull out the blackheads and whiteheads. It is seen that these masks can take away the whiteheads nicely.
About a few months back, I bought Pond’s Charcoal Facial Kit where I found a peel-off mask included in the last step. At first, I thought of skipping it but then I decided to follow the trend. And, guess what! It came out as the worse nightmare.
My sensitive skin felt itchier towards the end of the facial session. Whoa! I wish I had known the ifs and buts of peel-off masks. So, I decided to research a few queries that I had in mind and also that people often look for in search engines.
There are a number of popular questions. So, let’s try to decode the people-favourite questions that we all need to know before buying any peel-off mask.
Peel-off masks are fun only when you opt for them once or twice a week. Pulling out these masks every now and then can make your skin lose its elasticity.
Especially, people with sensitive skin like me should not include it in their daily skincare regime as it can make the skin itchy and more sensitive. At least, check the ingredients before trying that out (which I could not do as Pond’s do not attach the ingredients list for the facial kit components).
So, once in a while you can apply it just for the fun fact. But, it’s always better to opt the water-based face masks that you can wash off later on.
Well! Both the products are effective to take away the dead cells. But, it is important to understand the Peel-Off Masks offer chemical exfoliation. When the gel/clay-like consistency comes off like a sheet of paper, it sheds the dead skin cells too.
On the other hand, a scrub offers physical exfoliation. It takes off the upper Epidermis layer along with the dirt & pollutants.
No, it’s not mandatory! Post-peeling the face mask, you can continue your skincare regime. Rinse with cold water only if you sense any irritation after applying a peel-off mask.
Well! It is not a wise idea to use peel-off masks to remove the upper lip hair. The peel-off masks are formulated to remove whiteheads, gunks, oils, and dirt. And, it’s better to use it that way.
It is another myth that is closely associated with activated Charcoal. Activated charcoal is antibacterial and thus, it helps to reduce the appearance of pimples to some extent.
But, in a typical peel-off mask, the percentage of Charcoal used is quite low. Hence, it does not deliver any desired result especially when it comes to pimples.
Nope! It is never ever suggested to use these masks post-threading-/waxing. Threading or waxing makes the skin sensitive. And thus, any kind of tug or pull can make the skin more sensitive. So, don’t do it.
It is seen that Charcoal Peel-Off Masks are quite effective in pulling out whiteheads along with dirt and dead cells. But, it cannot remove blackheads effectively.
Dermatologists usually do not suggest using peel-off masks. The tug and pull can be really harsh on the gentle skin. The intensity of pain varies from brand to brand. But, there is no denial that peel-off masks are always a bit painful.
Well! Anything that let you remove the upper dead cell layer of the skin can make your skin looking brighter. It has nothing to do with complexion or skin lightening treatment.
The same theory is applicable to peel-off masks too. It can lighten the skin by removing the upper layer of dirt, dead skin cells, gunk, and whiteheads.
Overall, the debate might go long if we are asked to choose between the conventional wash-off face mask and the peel-off mask.
But, one thing cannot be denied ever that ingredients play a major role here. If the peel-off mask that you are about to buy contains good ingredients, then you can definitely spend your hard-earned money on that.
In case, all you find are Xanthan Gum, Gelatin, colour, and fragrance in your favourite charcoal peel-off mask, then it’s better to drop the idea. Check out, how to read the ingredients of cosmetics.
That’s all for today! If you find this article helpful, make sure to share it with your friends and family. Take care; celebrate life. And, don’t forget to wear the mask whenever you step outside.
